Grottos and caverns

In the south of the Ardèche, a network of subterranean rivers has dug tunnels of an immense size and has thus formed huge and indescribably beautiful grottos and caves (the so-called "aven").

Among the most beautiful of them are the Aven of Orgnac with its 50 m high subterranean halls and a total surface of 3 hectares, the Grottos of Saint-Marcel with their extraordinary cascades, the colourful Aven Marzal, the more than 2 million years old Grotto of the Madeleine and the Aven de la Forestière with its remarkable stalagmites and an astonishing cave zoo.
